Beverly “Bev” Rohde, 92, of La Crosse, passed June 29, 2026, surrounded by family, just three months after losing Ted, her husband of 73 years. Beverly Ann (Stair), born 3-16-34 in La Crosse, was the second child to Laura (Schroeder) Stair and Benjamin Stair.
Bev attended local schools and graduated from La Crosse Central in 1952. While a sophomore in high school she met a senior named Ted Rohde. Their relationship lasted 75 years. Ted and Bev were married January 10, 1953, at Asbury Methodist Church. They remained lifelong members of that church, now known as Faith United Methodist. Soon afterward they moved to Ft. Lewis, Washington, while Ted was serving in the U.S. Army. After Ted’s discharge they returned to La Crosse where she lived for the rest of her life.
In her younger years Bev worked at Modern Laundry, but while raising children, it was her and Ted’s decision that she remain a stay-at-home mother to give her kids a good foundation in their formative years. And that she did! When the kids were older, she took a job working with Ed & Greta Quillin at Quillin’s IGA, for many years at the store on West Avenue North, later moving to the store in the Village Shopping Center. Eventually, she became the bookkeeper for Ted’s businesses.
Ted and Bev shared many travels together, seeing 49 states, most of them by driving. They never made it to Hawaii. They enjoyed stopping at casinos along the way and taking backroad routes. Over the years they had many good friends with whom they shared countless nights playing cards, weekend adventures, and vacationing. She enjoyed walking groups, coffee clutches and frequently dining out. (Oh, how she loved to get dressed up, manicures done and enjoy the evening.) Most of all, Bev was extremely proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She never missed a birthday or one of their landmark events. Even until her last days she made certain she had a greeting card prepared for them.
After Ted’s passing in March, Bev wished to remain independent. With guidance from family and Agrace Hospice, she resolved to move to Eaglecrest South. She was very comfortable with the Eaglecrest facility and the staff, but it wasn’t the home she had shared with Ted. They are now reunited as one.
The family extends our heartfelt gratitude to Agrace Hospice, especially Jodi Benusa, Tuesday Hansen, and Dani Johnson. They have been unwavering support for the past 3 months. Mom was at peace in their care.
Bev was preceded in death by Ted, her husband of 73 years, her parents Ben and Laura, her sister Ellen Stair Ebert (Elmer) and several nieces and nephews.
Her survivors include her daughters: Donna (Dan) Teska of La Crosse, Debbie (Duane) David of Eureka, California and her son: Dave (Cherie) Rohde of Onalaska. Her grandchildren: Andy (Andrea) Teska, Molly (Ben) Risseeuw, Trevor (Steve Bazzini) David, Elizabeth (Greg) Stephens, Scott (Jamison) Rohde, Ben (Samantha Kabat) Rohde, Craig (Amy) Every, and Penny (Jeff) Alibrandi. Great grandchildren: Gianna, Ella, Nathan, Dominic, Kai, Bentley, Tenley, Taytum, Hayden, Kadence, Lyric, Riley, Jackson, Nina, and Hailee.
Services will be held Wednesday, July 15 at Faith United Methodist Church, 1818 Redfield St., La Crosse. Visitation 9:30-10:45 am. Funeral at 11 am followed by a reception in the church hall. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations may be made in Bev Rohde’s name to Agrace Hospice, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711 or at Agrace.org/Donate.
