Carol A. McCabe

Carol A. McCabe, 83, of Hokah, MN passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at Bay Harbor of La Crescent. She was born on February 16, 1943 in Newport, Arkansas to Joseph and Malinda (Pilger) Lorenz, the third of four children. She married James “Lumpy” McCabe on July 1, 1961 and together they had three boys, Michael, William, and Daniel. She worked alongside her husband after they established McCabe Roofing, Inc. in 1985. She was the backbone of the company, serving many roles while keeping everything in check not to mention Lumpy.

Carol was a loving mother and adored her grandkids. She took great care of her son, Mike, who preceded her in death. He would always remember where something was that she had misplaced. Carol was an avid supporter of Woodland Industries and Ability Building Community (ABC).

Carol enjoyed going on wagon rides being pulled by their team of horses. She loved to be hands on, from keeping her lawn manicured with her John Deere mower and plowing snow with her side by side to taking care of the trout farm along with the trees, flowers, and landscaping there. Having the trout farm earned her the nickname, “Grandma Fish”, from her grandkids. Carol also enjoyed trips to the casino in Black River Falls with her sister, Marg.

Carol is survived by her sons, William (Renee) and Daniel (Katie); grandsons, Ben, Nick, and Tucker; sister, Margaret (Ron) Cordes; and many nieces and nephews.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, James; son, Michael; grandson, Joshua; brother, Don (Helen) Lorenz; and sister, Lorene (Omer) Schleich.

Carol’s family would like to give a special thank you to Marg Cordes, Nancy Nimmo, and Pat Carlson for the extra time spent with Carol over the past month.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Hokah. Private burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Hokah. A Celebration of Carol’s Life will take place from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at the Brownsville Community Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Woodland Industries, Caledonia, MN.
