Carole DeLane (Hanson) Myhre, age 89, of Onalaska, WI, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Carole was born on March 14, 1936, in Fergus Falls, MN. She grew up on a farm just outside Battle Lake, MN. She was the second of four daughters born to Laura (Hilden) and Herbert Hanson.
She considered herself the ‘tomboy’ of the bunch, starting to drive tractor around the age of 10. She loved working outdoors.
She attended a one-room country school through grade 8 and then attended Battle Lake High School where she graduated in 1954. In 1955, she moved to Minneapolis, MN, and attended the Minnesota School of Business, graduating in 1956.
Carole met her husband of 67+ years, Doug Myhre, in early 1957. They were married in 1958 on Easter Sunday at Trefoldighed Lutheran Church in rural Battle Lake, MN, the church she grew up in.
Camping, hiking, traveling, fishing, boating on the Mississippi, and visiting close family living in other states were among the outdoor activities Carole and Doug enjoyed together. Carole also had a lifelong love of birds; she found great joy in watching them from her window and identifying the many species that visited her feeders.
Carole was a good cook and loved to bake. Many will miss her Norwegian delicacies that she often baked during the Christmas season.
Family and church were an important part of her life. She was a church secretary for many of her working years, taught Sunday school, was a Sunday school superintendent, and served on church councils and synod committees.
Carole was known for her positive spirit and genuine interest and care for others. She thoroughly enjoyed the time she spent with her family.
Carole is survived by her husband Doug; children Dan (Jill) Myhre, Diane (Mike) Morel, and Laura (Steve) Sjolander; grandchildren Jason (Aimee) Myhre, Nicole (Josh) Jorgensen, Kevin (Brittany) Morel, Cady (Stafford) Carlson, and Kyle (UyenThi) Tran Myhre; great-grandchildren Haley Madej, Andrew Madej, Mason Madej, Paige Madej, Miles Myhre, Everett Jorgensen, Teagan Morel, Cameron Morel, Finnley Carlson; sisters Lorraine Goesch and Sharon (Rick) Schaller; sister-in-law, Kim Myhre; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert & Laura Hanson, parents-in-law Douglas & Edith Myhre, sister Marlene Hanson, brothers-in-law James Hanson, William Goesch, Ed Myhre, Bill Myhre, and granddaughter Jessica Myhre.
“and so it goes”
A phrase Carole used during many conversations when talking with friends and family and a fitting end to her obituary.
