Charles Frederick Hosler Jr.

La Crosse

Dr. Charles Hosler was born on September 26th, 1939 in Flint, MI to Charles & Dora Hosler. He graduated from Flint Central High School before going on to receive his bachelor’s degree at the University of Michigan and then his doctorate from the University of Illinois. He then went on to become a Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse for 34 years.

Church was a great part of Charles life. He enjoyed serving as a Sunday School teacher, was a head usher, sand in the choir an also played in the bell choir. In the last 4 years of his life, he loved singing with the Giving Hearts choir.

He shared his love of woodworking, spending many hours with his children and grandchildren in his workshop. He also spent his time helping with 4H fair projects, making things for the Children's Museum as well as making award plackets for Black Hawk Archers.

Charles was both a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader guiding several boys to become Eagle Scouts. He was also a member of the Order of the Arrow in scouting.

Charles leaves behind his wife of 62 years Mary, son Bryan (Lisa) Hosler, daughter Kathy (Mike) Hosler-Bott, grandson Matt (Melinda) Hosler, great granddaughters Lola & Penelope Hosler, sister Sherry Haynes of Grand Traverse, MI, sister-in-laws Alice (Dick) Howe of Huntington Beach, CA and Anita (Karl) Kirk of Lapeer, MI, “adopted family” John & Leanne Krause and “grandpa to” Mattie, god-daughter Alicia, Josh & Ava Krause, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on June 20th, 2025 from 5-7:00 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on June 21st, 2025 at First Congregational Church of La Crosse with a visitation the hour before.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Congregational Church Giving Hearts Choir, the Alzheimer’s Association or any charity of your choice.
