Charles Ray Prise of La Crosse, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on July 29th, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving daughters.

Charles was born on August 25th, 1927, in La Crosse to John and Emma Prise. Charles graduated from Logan High School. In 1944 at the age of 17, he enlisted in the Navy on the USS Alabama. He re-enlisted at the end of World War II until 1950.

After the military, he married the love of his life, Carol (Marker) Prise on July 1st, 1950, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon, Iowa. Charles and Carol were longtime residents of French Island and members of the Olivet Lutheran Church. He held numerous jobs but retired from Frank Liquor of La Crosse in January of 1993.

Charles had a passion for family, golf, and reading. He was a Little League softball coach on French Island for his children and other children for many years. Charles had a passion for sports and loved watching the Brewers and Packers on television from his favorite chair.

He will be remembered for his sense of humor, kind heart, and generosity.

Charles is survived by his four children, Charles Prise Jr. (Leanne), George Prise (Paula), Diane Faust, and Amy Mighall (Neil); a daughter-in-law, Janet Mattison Prise; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Charles is preceded in death by his wife Carol Prise, son Robert John Prise, as well as 10 brothers & sisters.

The family would like to thank Gundersen Hospice and Dr. Daniel Sutton.

There will be a private military burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in La Crosse, WI.
