Christine Portzen Metzler, 68, of Onalaska, went to Heaven on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Christine was born on December 17, 1956, to Joseph & Dorothy (Lowe) Portzen in Manitowoc, WI. After graduating from Flambeau Lincoln High School in Manitowoc in 1974, she went on to study Music Performance and Education, earning her degree from the Conservatory of Music at Lawrence University, in Appleton.
After graduation, she landed her first job as an Orchestra teacher for Oconomowoc High School, kicking off a lifelong passion to help others learn.
On January 20th, 1985, Christine met David at a Bible study, and they wed on June 6th, 1987, going on to have 3 children, Alexander, Timothy, and Samuel.
Christine taught all of her children to read and write and taught them how to love God and be kind to others. She taught her children at home, Alex through the 4th grade, Tim through the 2nd grade, and Sam through the 8th grade, after which she went to work at Coulee Christian School. She started the Orchestra program there, along with a special education department. She retired in 2014 but always sought to spend her free time helping others and sharing the word of God. She spent her life treating everyone with love and kindness.
We would like to thank the Gundersen Hospice Program, Grace Community Supportive Living Services, Sally Inda, Cindy Jensen, and all of our friends and neighbors who helped with their time, effort, love, and prayers.
Christine was predeceased by her mother and father Joseph and Dorthy Portzen.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, David Metzler, their 3 sons Alex (Wendy), Tim (Beth), and Sam, her brothers Michael (Brenda) and Brian (Lisa), and her grandchildren Harlan and Zoey.
