Dr. Christopher H. Cogbill

Christopher Hull Cogbill died on Tuesday, November 3, 2026 after struggling with mental illness.

Chris was born on August 7, 1980 in Denver, Colorado to Thomas and Jan (Anderson) Cogbill. Chris graduated from La Crosse Central High School in 1998, and from Colby College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2002. He received his Doctor of Medicine in 2006 and then completed his residency in pathology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, followed by a fellowship in hematopathology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He then joined Gundersen Health System in 2016, and he was very proud of his contributions to the field of pathology and his community at Emplify Health.

Chris loved the American Birkebeiner Nordic ski race, running, mountain biking, walking his dog, Red, exploring nature, baseball with his sons, and volleyball with his daughter. He also loved sharing his passion for the St. Louis Cardinals with his family.

He is survived by his children, Grant, Evelyn, and Ethan; his beloved partner, Kathryn Wagner; his friend and former wife, Elizabeth Cogbill; his mother, Jan Cogbill; and his siblings, Andrew (Cassandra) Cogbill and Allison (Lars) Bland. Chris was preceded in death by his father, Tom.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation, the La Crosse Public Education Foundation, or the Gundersen Medical Foundation.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2026 at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse.
