David Carl Leuenberger, 74, of La Crosse, formerly of Fort Atkinson, Iowa, who spent the last twenty years carrying the weight of losing his beloved wife Jo, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026. David was born April 13, 1952 in Decorah, Iowa to Carl and Gretchen (Williams) Leuenberger. He was raised and part of a large farming community until he became a brick and block layer throughout the Midwest. During that time David married Johanna Seegmiller (Joey) of Decorah on June 10, 1972. They had two sons, Jason (Chris) and Ben (Liz Kempter). Chase Leuenberger was his beloved and only grandson.
Together David and Jo became the owners of Sunshine Floral Co. in 1994. David’s life was filled with simple joys. He loved watching his favorite team, the Cubs. David also had a fierce love of fast cars and of racing fast cars. He owned several. The outdoors was another love. He enjoyed bass fishing for fun and also competitively. Golfing with friends and family was also a passion.
David is survived by his two sons, Jason (Chris) and Ben (Liz), grandson Chase Leuenberger, sister Linda (Bruce) Chandler, and several nieces and nephews. David is also survived by his faithful companion, sweet little dog Tizzie. He was preceded in death by his forever Jo, his parents, and a sister Sherry Ruppel.
A small service for family will take place and a Celebration will be announced later. David was a very kind and loving man.
