David M. Sveen

David Melvin Sveen, age 64, of La Crosse, passed away at his home on December 26, 2025.

David was born on July 13, 1961, to Melvin Sveen and Audrey (Erickson) Sveen. He was married on May 10, 1996, to Sue Ellen Roberts.

David loved the outdoors and treasured time spent hiking with his son Jason and his grandchildren. He also enjoyed camping and traveling, especially to places that held special meaning for him. Some of his favorite destinations included Marquette, Michigan, and Great River Bluffs in Nodine, Minnesota. One of his most cherished childhood memories was visiting Crater Lake in Oregon, a favorite place his father took him.

He was an avid collector of coins and rocks and enjoyed telling jokes to anyone who would listen. He was a devoted football fan and loved the Green Bay Packers.

David is survived by his son, Jason and daughter-in-law Kristle (Devenport) Sveen; daughters, Heather Sveen and Jessica Sveen; and his beloved grandchildren: Skylar Burkhalter, Hannah Steinhoff, Kaleb Monti, Teagan Janda, Ethan and Amiya Sveen (children of Jason), and Decora Sveen, Kaleana Kerrigian, Amorina Benjamin, Azaleigha Napihaa and Zadiyah Sveen (children of Heather); Great Granddaughter Willow Lucas; his sister Julie Semtana.

He is preceded in death by his father, Melvin Sveen; his mother, Audrey (Erickson) Sveen; his stepfather, Ed Forte; his brother, Loren Sveen; his sister, Kathie (Houlihan) Peterson; and his wife, Sue Ellen (Roberts) Sveen.

 David will be remembered for his love of family, his laughter, and the many memories made outdoors and at home. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, February 25th, starting at 11:00 a.m. at 200 West Ave S, La Crosse, WI.
