Donald W. "Brick" Volden

Donald W. “Brick” Volden, 96, of La Crosse, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2026. He was born on May 22, 1930 in La Crosse, to Norman and Lucine (Wrobel) Volden. He married Shirley M. Mattson on August 1, 1953 and together they had two sons. Don was a 1948 graduate of La Crosse Central. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1950 and was stationed in Germany, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1951. Don began his working career in the early 60’s at the La Crosse Garment Company which later became The Company Store. After the closing of The Company Store, he went on to work at Midwest Garments.

Don is survived by his son, Darren Volden; daughter-in-law, Nancy Chambers Volden; five grandchildren, Steven (Lynne) Volden of Maricopa, AZ, Jenna Volden (Justin) of Tolleson, AZ, Joe (Amanda) Volden of Greeley, CO, Jeremy (Pam) Volden of Big Bend, WI, and Jon (Pam) Volden of Oceanside, CA; ten great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; son, Michael; and two brothers, Lucern and Jim.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 1602 Park Ave., La Crosse, WI 54601. Reverend Robert Wassermann will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery.
