Donna Mae Engelson

Donna Mae (Phelps) Engelson, age 93 of Onalaska, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at Benedictine Manor. She was born to Louis and Loretta (Fordham) Phelps on February 23rd, 1932 in La Crosse. She was married to Warren Engelson on October 16th, 1952 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in La Crosse.

Donna was an avid bowler back in the day along with her husband, earning top honors of 1157 in the Trane couples league. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and her favorite pastime of cooking. Donna and Warren volunteered at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, “Come for supper” for 20 years, and also enjoyed volunteering at the church rummage sale.

She is survived by her son, Mark (Nancy); daughter, Karen (Matt) Mattes, granddaughters, Jenny Engelson, Kristin (Brian) (Mattes) Dahl, and Sara (Paul Wech) Mattes; brothers-in-law, Fred Olson and Earl (Mary Jo) Engelson; sisters-in-law, Donna K. Engelson; great-grandchildren, Everly, Andrew, Lily, and Sophia; and nieces and nephews.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband; parents; grandparents; sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and David Thompson; and brother and sister-in-law, LaMont Engelson and Arlene Olson.

Services will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 10:30AM. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will follow at the church before going to Mormon Coulee Memorial Park for burial.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to St. Croix Hospice who cared for Mom in her last days, and Benedictine Manor for making sure she was comfortable.
