Donna Mae (Hicke) Finch passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026, in the place she proudly called home for the past 31 years.
She was born on November 8, 1932, to Herman and Ida Hicke in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
We celebrate the remarkable 93 years of a woman who never once confused “being quiet” with “being polite.” As they say, dynamite comes in small packages — and in Donna’s case, that couldn’t have been truer. Or as her granddaughter lovingly put it: “Spicy.”
At 93, she departed this world having said exactly what she meant for nearly a century. She was a proud mother and grandmother who loved any child she could rock, cuddle, or occasionally bribe. Her love was fierce, her standards were clear, and her presence was unforgettable.
Donna’s opinions were strong, consistent, and generously shared — whether you asked for them or not. From People magazine and Bob Barker on The Price Is Right to John Wayne and her beloved westerns, she loved them all. Her scalloped potatoes and ham were legendary. Venison, however, was never welcome at her table.
Donna lived most of her life in La Crosse County. She eventually left the “big city life” behind to retire on a quiet dead-end road that felt like the middle of nowhere — and she loved it. There, she became part of the extended family around her, never missing an opportunity to take a toddler — Lance, Madison, or Logan — for a stroller ride or to keep a watchful eye while they played.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynnette, and son, Anthony; her grandchildren, Jim, Josh, Sara, Jake, Zach, Lacy, and Bruce Michael; and her great-grandchildren: Maya, Lilly, Ivy, Graci, Caleb, Raelyn, Liam, Lane and Tuffton. She is also survived by her extended family: Jim and Gidget Gade; Lance (Faith) and their children, Lucille, William, and Harrison; Madison (Sam); and Logan.
Donna was preceded in death by her sons, Bruce and Clayton; her daughter, Lisa; her four brothers, Kermit, Pearn, Argyl, and Blaine; and her three sisters, Mavis, Marjorie, and Eileen.
Family gatherings will be quieter without her commentary, but her spirit — bold, loving, and unapologetically honest — will live on in every strong opinion voiced at the dinner table and every child rocked to sleep.
In her honor, speak your mind, season your food properly, and never mistake silence for kindness.
She was small in stature, mighty in spirit, and unforgettable to all who knew her.
