Dorothy Poellinger, 91 of La Crosse, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at Riverside Transitional Care. She was born in La Crosse on November 21, 1933 to Robert and Sigrid Loughan.
Dorothy married Richard J. Poellinger on July 21, 1956 at St. John’s Catholic Church in La Crosse. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital for her whole career until retirement. She was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church and for many years, she worked blood pressure clinics and blood drives at the church. Dorothy was also a Red Hat Lady and notably, a 30-year breast cancer survivor.
During her spare time, Dorothy loved traveling, cross-country skiing, walking at the mall, and tending to her flowers and yard. But more than anything, she loved spending time with her husband and their Westie. Dorothy enjoyed her lunchtime tea and sweets, especially chocolate ice cream. She had her signature recipes she would enjoy cooking for Richard and others.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Joan Zunker; and many brothers-and-sisters-in-law. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Richard; their loving Westie, Aaron Rodgers; many nieces and nephews; and decade long friends who would ski, vacation, and share meals with Dorothy and Richard.
A special thank you to the staff and caregivers at Brookdale and Riverside for their care and kindness.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, August 21, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1010 Sill St., La Crosse with visitation from 10:00AM until the time of the service. Dorothy will be laid to rest at Oak Grove Cemetery.
