Dorothy E. Ritter, 89, of French Island, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, August 24, 2026, at her home. She was born on December 4, 1936, in La Crosse to Leslie and Violet (Aiken) Tyler, and she graduated from Logan High School. She married John "Jack" Ritter on September 10, 1960, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and were together until his death on February 9, 1999.

She worked as a grocery store cashier and especially enjoyed her time at Freddie's Market on the North Side and Quillins on French Island, where she could keep up on any French Island news/gossip. She was very proud of having worked until she was 82 years old.

She loved to garden, read, play cards, casino trips, keep her house meticulously clean, and was a terrific cook and baker. She enjoyed trips to Colorado to visit Dennis, Florida with Hazel, Gene, and Betty, and a memorable Tyler family trip to Las Vegas where she was thrilled to see Tony Bennett in concert.

Dorothy is survived by her four sons whom she was so proud of: Dennis, Patrick (Deb Mirr), Tim, and Brian; grandchildren Justin, Eli, Lucas, Juliette, Ashlyn, and Emily, and step-grandson Ben Lavold (Kim) and their daughters Grace and Katie; brothers Milt and Paul (Elaine) Tyler, sister Linda Wieczorek, sister-in-laws Betty and Sharon and many nieces and nephews that she was fond of. In addition to her parents and Jack, she was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law Les and Hazel Tyler, brothers Gene and Tom Tyler, sister-in-law Marlene Tyler, and brother-in-law John Wieczorek.

There is a service at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1031 Main St, Onalaska, WI 54650, on Tuesday, September 1st at 11:00 with visitation starting at 10:00. Burial will take place at French Island Cemetery at 12:30.
