Dylan Patrick Lunney of Cidra, Puerto Rico, passed away on March 28, 2026. Dylan was a wonderful human being who also struggled with depression. The complications from his suicide attempt at the end of December became too much for his body to overcome.
Dylan was born on July 11, 1989 to Lori & Pat Lunney in Ft. Collins, Colorado. After graduating from Onalaska High School in 2007, he went on to study Political Science at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
After graduation, he moved to NYC where he blended his passion for grass roots politics, humanitarian aid and leadership development.
In 2018, he made the decision to obtain his Permaculture Design Certificate in order to get his hands in the dirt and become an organic farmer; first at The Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farms, then at Fruitwood Nursery in Humboldt County, California.
It was in California that he met Jesyka Melendez. They decided to become partners in setting up Finca JeVaNa, a human scale no-till permaculture farm in the interior mountains of Puerto Rico. Dylan and Jes put their heart and soul into sustainable practices to reclaim the soil and build their own home. Their fruits, vegetables, flowers and preserved items were appreciated by their customers at farmer’s markets and select restaurants.
Dylan loved to travel, snowboard, skateboard, surf, forage for mushrooms, and play games. Many of these things he did with life-long friends and family. He was a committed pole vaulter in high school.
Dylan was passionate about the environment and social justice issues. He was despondent over oppression in the world, especially over the plight of the Palestinian people.
Dylan was predeceased by his grandma, Carol Johnson, his grandparents, Jim and Mickey Lunney and several beloved dogs including Lakai, Dexter, and Magoo.
He is survived by his fiancé, Jesyka Melendez, his parents, Pat and Lori Lunney, his siblings Rachel Ozimek, Aaron Lunney, Hannah Lunney, Isaiah Lunney and Pearl Lunney. He was a special uncle to Lola, George and Jack. He is also survived by grandparents Al and Marge Johnson, aunts Kim Johnson, Darcy Skibba, Mary Kay Carrell, Lynn Lunney; uncles John Lunney, Dan Lunney, Marco Bartan, Don Skibba, Steve Schunk, Mike Lunney and Tim Lunney, as well as very special cousins, friends, and his dog Mango.
We believe that one day we will reunite with Dylan in eternal peace and for now, we will continue to pray for peace that surpasses all understanding.
Dylan’s funeral will take place on Thursday, April 9th at First Lutheran Church at 410 Main St. in Onalaska, WI. Visitation will be from 10am to 12pm, funeral service at noon, followed by a meal and gathering at 1:30pm at Fox Hollow Event Center.
In lieu of flowers, please direct any memorials to Hope Restores or to The Nature Place. Dylan’s family appreciates all of your love, prayers, and acts of kindness.
