Eric D. Sorenson

Eric D. Sorenson, 75, of Onalaska, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse. He was born on December 29, 1950, to Donald and Delores (Hanson) Sorenson in Eau Claire, WI.

Eric graduated from Eau Claire North High School and was drafted into the United States Army, serving from 1969 to 1972. Following his military service, he earned his teaching degree from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He married Barbara Williams Kabat on March 2, 1991.

Eric worked as a Choral Music Teacher in both the West Salem and La Crosse School Districts. Music was an important part of his life, and he enjoyed sharing his love of music with his students and community. He was involved with the Coulee Chordsmen, West Salem Jazz Band, and La Crosse Community Theater. He also served as Choir Director at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in West Salem.

Eric was an avid golfer, Harley rider, and diehard Wisconsin sports fan. Earlier in life, he enjoyed traveling to many states to visit family. In retirement, Eric especially enjoyed bird watching. In July, he and Barbara celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary with family and friends on an Alaskan cruise, creating one more special memory together.

Eric is survived by his wife, Barbara; mother, Delores; children, Brian (Kimberly) Kabat, Laurie (Chris) McMartin, Megan Sorenson, Amy Sorenson, and Andrew (Britta) Sorenson; grandchildren, Ashley, Alexa, Ava, Sarah, Bode, Jordy, and Bergen; sisters, Debra Sorenson-Johnson and Amy Severson; brother, Bradley (Sheri) Sorenson; and many nieces and nephews.

Eric was preceded in death by his father, Donald; and brother, Alan Sorenson.

Memorial services will be held at 12:30 pm on Monday, August 24, 2026 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in West Salem, WI. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of services.
