Fredric Edward Mahlke Jr.

Fredric Edward Mahlke Jr., 91, of La Crescent, MN died June 17, 2025 at Emplify Health. He was born on October 22, 1933, the son of Fredric and Helen (Keller) Mahlke. Fredric married Janice Colleen Heyroth on October 10, 1962 in Illinois.

As a teen, Fredric worked as a soda jerk for his parent’s business Capitol Confectionary. He worked at Trane Company for 45 years until he retired in 1998. He was known as “Fast Freddie” as they always put him at the front of the assembly line. He also worked in his makeshift workshop in the basement. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix!

His favorite activities included duck hunting, camping, and antiquing. He started duck hunting with his Dad and his Brother-in-Law Bob. He eventually began with his son Steven and his grandson Nicholas. He enjoyed football and his beloved Minnesota Vikings. He enjoyed taking the camper out on numerous camping trips. He loved “antiquing” and sometimes came back with a treasure! He enjoyed Saturday night cards (31) and Dominoes with family. Fred’s closest loved ones lovingly referred to him as “Walter from Jeff Dunham”.

His faith was very important to him and was a member of First Lutheran Church in La Crescent.

Fredric is survived by his devoted wife, Janice; brother, Garry (Jeanne) Mahlke of Round Rock, TX; his loving children: sons, Wayne Fischer, Steve (Leslye), Edward; daughters, Deborah (Ken) Perry and Veronica; 11 grandchildren, Heather, Andrew, Wendy, Zach, Stacey, Crystal, Stephanie, Adam, Nicholas, Chayne, Chantel; and many great-grandchildren.

Fredric was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marion (Robert) Lubinski; and grandson, Braeden Lee Mahlke.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 21, 2025 at First Lutheran Church, 414 Main St., La Crescent. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona.
