Garnet, age 90, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Monday, March 6 th at Hillview Healthcare Center, his assisted living home in La Crosse. Nicknamed, “G.V.”, he was born in Spring Grove, Minnesota on March 3 rd , 1927 to Albert and Geneva (Olson) Stigen. After World War II, while living in La Crosse, he married Shirley Ruth Bray and raised seven children. Garnet was well-known for his custom carpentry work throughout La Crosse – he was one of a kind. He loved the great outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, gardening and cracking walnuts. He grew a mean tomato! He is proceeded in death by his wife Shirley; sons Gary and Ronny; daughter Judy Anne;grandchildren Hope, Carmen and Brittney Jean, two brothers and a sister. Garnet is survived by his brother Robert and his children; Lawrence, Robert, Deborah, Terrance, David and Pamela and by his fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A celebration of Garnet’s life will be conducted privately with immediate family. Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse is assisting the family.
