George Henry Kerckhove, 87, formerly of La Crosse, died on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at his home in Verona, WI. He was born on July 28, 1937 in Northwood, IA to Robert and Elizabeth (Nerad) Kerckhove. George had worked at Trane Company for 25 years as the Executive Vice-President in La Crosse. He then worked for 12 years as the Chief Financial Officer for American Standard in Brussels, Belgium, Bedminster, NJ, and returning to La Crosse, retiring in 2000.
George served on the Board of Directors for Merix Corporation in Beaverton, OR and Marrone Bio Innovations in Davis, CA. He served as President of the Board of Directors for the Mississippi Valley Conservancy and in 2009 George and his wife Sharon conveyed an easement of 200 acres they owned to the conservancy to protect the land and habitat from encroaching development. George also served on the Board of Directors for the Gundersen Clinic Foundation in La Crosse.
George is survived by his wife Sharon Kerckhove of La Crosse, two sons, Michael (Renee’) Kerckhove of Richmond, VA and James (Michele) Kerckhove of Mindoro, WI, stepchildren, PeriAnne Huggins Olson of La Crosse, Curtis (Johanna) Huggins of Grand Rapids, MI, Brent (Shari) Huggins of Madison, WI and Jennifer Huggins of Madison, WI, a grandson Tanner Kerckhove of Richmond, VA, step grandchildren, Benjamin Olson of La Crosse, Lucas Olson of Philomath, OR, Taylor Berkhout of Amsterdam, Netherlands, Leah Haskin of Evanston, IL, David Huggins of Tallahassee, FL, Rachel Huggins of Lee Summit, MO, Bryan Huggins of Grand Rapids, MI, Carly Huggins of Christiansburg, VA, Luke Huggins of Madison, WI, Chase Huggins of Madison, WI, Chester Huggins, of Madison, WI, Alexander Stinson of Stoddard, WI, and Collin Stinson of La Crosse, a brother Eugene Kerckhove of Bloomer, WI, and his ex-wife Bette (Davis) Kerckhove of La Crosse. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Jon Kerckhove, and two brothers, Raymond and Donald Kerckhove.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation services of La Crosse. Rev. Martin Yeager will officiate. Private family burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of services.
