John F. Weber

May 26, 1941 — May 1, 2025

La Crosse

John (Jack) Weber passed away May 1st, 2025, at Eagle Crest South, La Crosse, WI. Jack was born May 26th, 1941, to Marie (Smith) Weber and Jack Weber Sr. He attended St John's Catholic School and graduated from Logan High School in 1959. While at Logan, Jack was a member of the baseball, basketball, and football teams for 3 years. In 1957 and 1959, he was fortunate enough to play on the State Tourney Team, and in 1959, they had a record of 26-2 in basketball, one of the best records for the city and school history.

After high school, Jack joined the National Guard, serving 8 years. In 1962, Jack married Yvonne Schafer, and together they raised two sons, Paul and John. Jack and Yvonne later divorced, and Yvonne passed away in 1992. In 1999, Jack married Betty Pretasky, and together they shared 26 happy years together, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Jack enjoyed attending local sporting events, especially those in which his sons, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews participated. He was a fan of the Badgers, Brewers, and Packers. Jack and Betty belonged to the "59er Diners" for many years, enjoying the company of Jack's classmates and their spouses. Treasured friendships were formed within the group.

Jack worked for The Trane Company, WA Roosevelt, and G Heileman Brewing Co., before retiring from BNSF railroad as a conductor after 31 years. He also owned and operated The North Star tavern for several years. Jack's later years were challenged by life-altering peripheral neuropathy and dementia. Although he never, ever complained, his ability to live the life he wanted was sadly not to be.

Survivors include his wife Betty; sons Paul (Suzanne) and John; grandchildren Michael (Jessica), Daniel, Giovanna, Gabriel, Maria, Mitchel, Parker and Aubree Grace Pintz; great-granddaughters Maxine and Sophia Weber; brothers Steve (Rosa), Jim (Paulette) and Peter (Julie); sister-in-law Vicki De Maiffe and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Betty's daughters, Sue (Dwight) Reynolds and Sandy (Mike) Weihing; grandchildren Daniel and Cassie Reynolds, Mikeala and Caroline Weihing; sister-in-law Kay (Bernie) Sasse and brother-in-law Bradley (Pamela) Benrud and their families.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Jack Weber, and brother Tom. Jack was a very good man. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, step-dad, and friend.

He loved his family deeply. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
