John Gross III

John Gross III, 71 of La Crosse, WI passed away on October 17, 2025 in his home surrounded by family. He was born on December 12, 1953 to Dorothy (Kramer) and John Gross II.

John proudly served in the US Army before becoming an auto mechanic and later a semi driver. He served his community of Stoddard, WI as a volunteer first responder for the fire department and played Santa at the south side Walmart many times.

John was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and camping. He married his wife, Cheryl (Cox) in 1978 and was a wonderful husband and attentive father to his children, William (Angela) and Heather Gross. He took an active role in raising his grandchildren, Shawna, Shyla, Seth, Gunner, Noah, and Bella. He also enjoyed spending time with his 7 great-grandchildren.

John was always the first person to offer a helping hand to strangers and family alike. He will be forever missed by everyone he touched with his kindness.

He is survived by his mother, Dorothy; sister, Debbie (Steve) Hawkins; wife, Cheryl; children; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, John Gross II.

The family is holding an informal celebration of life on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at the American Legion Post 52 (711 South 6th Street, La Crosse, WI) from 12:00-3:00PM. All are welcome.
