Joseph “Joe” Marcou, age 61, of Onalaska, passed away suddenly on July 5 (his father’s birthday) leaving behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and deep love for his family. He was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin, on September 23, 1964, and later made his home with his family in Stoddard, WI. Growing up in a lively household as one of six siblings, Joe grew up surrounded by the values that shaped his life—hard work and loyalty.
A devoted father of four, from his 30-year marriage to Titia Jo Marcou, Joe poured his heart into raising his children with patience and unwavering support. He took pride in every milestone, every challenge overcome, and every moment spent together sharing lots of laughs and making many memories. His joy only grew with the arrival of his four grandchildren, who lit up his world
Joe started his career with Gillette Pepsi in his early 20's, grew within the company and retired as Fountain Sales Manager. He earned several awards throughout his career due to the genuine relationships he built and his strong work ethic. Whether at work or at home, Joe always had a way of making people feel seen, valued, and welcomed.
He will be remembered for his easy smile, his steady presence, sense of humor, entertaining and grilling out for family and friends, and attending family holiday celebrations. Joe enjoyed time on the river, hunting, on the golf course and cheering on the Green Bay Packers. His absence leaves a profound void, but his impact will continue to ripple through the lives of all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; James and Mary Marcou as well his mother and father-in-law, La Rae and John Hagen. We find comfort in knowing he was welcomed by his parents, in laws, grandparents and many special relatives.
Joe is survived by his four children, Ambrea Jo Marcou (Nicholas Moser), Joseph Neil Marcou (Andrea Stolpa), RaeAnn Jo Holen (Dayton), Ivy Jo Marcou (Dani), five grandchildren Astoria, Toviyah, Patrick, Rudy, and Reshelle, his siblings, Kathy Duerwachter (Craig), Jim Marcou (Diane), Patty Marcou (Kent Rohrig), Paul Marcou (Florence), Mike Marcou (Amy) and “7th Child” Brian Marcou (Kristine), along with many special aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and countless friends. Though his earthly journey has ended, the love he shared remains, carried forward in the hearts of those he touched.
A visitation is being held from 10-11:00 am with a funeral mass following on Tuesday, July 21, St. James the Less Catholic Church, 1032 Caledonia Street, La Crosse. Burial will follow mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, County Road B, La Crosse, with lunch to follow in the lower level of the church.
