Kathleen M. Tabbert

Kathleen Mary Subjek/Tabbert (Kantarik) 83, of Superior, Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly at Emplify Health on 10/23/2026. Kathy was born 07/09/1943 in Superior, Wisconsin to John and Katherine (Ferfon) Kantarik. Kathy graduated from Cathedral High School in 1961, then went on to further her education at St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing affiliated with Viterbo University in La Crosse, WI.

Kathy married Michael Subjek of La Crosse, WI on April 24th, 1965 in Superior, WI. They were blessed to share 33 years of marriage filled with love and cherished memories. having three children, and five grandchildren. Kathy was fortunate to experience the gift of marriage and love twice in her lifetime. Kathy married Carl Tabbert of La Crosse, WI on August 28th, 2009 in La Crosse, WI finding companionship and another opportunity to share life’s journey with someone special.

Kathy worked as a Registered Nurse at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse, WI for her entire career retiring after over 40 years in 2010. Through her years of service, she built lasting friendships and touched many lives with her compassion and commitment to caring for others.

Earlier in life, Kathy enjoyed camping and spending time at the sandbars on the Mississippi River. She loved visiting with friends and was an active part of several groups that brought her joy, including her bowling team, card club, Packer group and being a member of the Moose Lodge and Holy Trinity Parish. Kathy embraced life and looked forward to traveling, playing a game of Euchre or Skip-Bo, taking gambling trips, cheering on the Packers, Brewers and Badgers, and relaxing with a good Manhattan at her favorite establishment. What made Kathy special was her welcoming personality, quick laugh, genuine kindness, and willingness to help others. She cherished her friendships and many memories made along the way, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Survived by her children Julie (Jeffry) Richgels of La Crosse, Michael Subjek (Stephanie) of Oakdale, and Rebecca (B.J.) Hamilton of La Crescent; five grandchildren Danielle (Nathan Perger) Richgels, Michael Richgels, John Richgels, William Hamilton and Taylor Hamilton; her sister Carole Nordness and brother Jim Kantarik.

Preceding Kathy in death are spouses Michael Subjek and Carl Tabbert; her brother John (Jack) Kantarik, sisters-in-law Marilyn Kantarik and Kay Kantarik, brothers-in-law John Subjek and Robert Nordness.

Visitation will be held October 29, 2026 at 9:00 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in La Crosse, WI with funeral service immediately following at 10:30, with Father Rick Roberts officiating. Interment will be in Catholic Cemetery on Losey Blvd.
