Kathryn D. Bandell

Kathryn "Kathy" Bandell, 73, of La Crosse, WI passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Riverside Transitional Care in La Crosse. Kathy was born in Viroqua, WI on June 28, 1951, to Walter and Ellen (Hall) Melby.

She had an associate degree in Food Service Management, a diploma from Madison Area Technical College as a Food Service Assistant, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Viterbo University.

Kathy met her husband, Bill Bandell, while working at Bethany St. Joseph Nursing Home. They were married on August 4, 1979.

During their marriage Kathy and Bill had several dogs that they enjoyed and loved. Kathy worked for 35 years at Gundersen Hospital in the kitchen performing various duties.

Spending time with family and friends was especially important to her. She had many fond memories of holidays and special occasions at the Melby’s and Bandell’s. Kathy was involved and a regular attender of Temple Baptist Church in La Crosse. She loved their church and church family. Kathy rarely missed a service unless she was sick or out of town. Her faith in Jesus helped sustain her through many trials and health issues.

Kathy is survived by her sister, Kris (Dan) Meyer of Land O’ Lakes, WI; and nephew, Travis (Liz) Meyer of La Crosse. Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; and her parents, Walter and Ellen Melby.

A special thank you to the Riverside Transitional Care staff for the excellent love and care Kathy received while she was there.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday April 8, 2025, at Temple Baptist Church in La Crosse. Pastor Daniel Habegger will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Black River Falls. Friends may call on the family at the church on Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Temple Baptist Church.
