Kent Harry Sween, 93, of La Crosse, Wisconsin, passed away on October 8, 2026, in the company of his family.
Kent was born September 6, 1933, to Harry and Margaret (Putman) Sween. He was raised in Holmen and was a lifelong resident of La Crosse County. After graduating from Holmen High School, he volunteered for the Army in 1953 during the Korean War and served in the Signal Corps, stationed in Germany. Following his honorable discharge, he studied briefly at Luther College and UW-La Crosse.
Kent then began a career in sales and met Mary Stroeh. They married in 1961 at English Lutheran Church and raised four children: Lawrence, Karen, Gordon, and Charles. Kent worked for Click Distributing and Consolidated Cigar Corporation, traveling throughout the Midwest for much of his career. He was an active member of English Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir for many years, and belonged to the Holmen American Legion, the Holmen Area Historical Society, and the Sons of Norway. He was immensely proud of his children and worked hard to see all four graduate from college.
In retirement, Kent enjoyed traveling, gardening, and time with his family and grandchildren. He and Mary moved to Eagle Crest South in 2021.
Kent is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary; his children, Lawrence Sween (Mary Beuscher), Karen (Anthony) Gaskin, Gordon Sween (Todd Price), and Charles Sween; five grandchildren, Ciara, Cameron, Isaac, Nick, and Michael; three great-grandchildren, Arlo, Semeta, and Issa; his nephews, Paul Selbo (Sue) and John Selbo (Bernie Bridges); and Tammy Selbo, wife of his late nephew Luther.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Margaret; his sister, Marge Selbo, and her husbands, Warren Selbo and Joe Ralph; and his nephews, David and Luther Selbo.
A visitation will be held Thursday, October 15, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 907 Sand Lake Rd, Onalaska. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 16, at 11:00 AM at English Lutheran Church, 1509 King St, La Crosse, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. A luncheon will follow the service, with interment afterward at Halfway Creek Cemetery in Holmen.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to English Lutheran Church or the Holmen Area Historical Society.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Mayo Clinic, Eagle Crest, St. Croix Hospice, and Inclusa for the care and comfort they provided to Kent and his family throughout his journey.
