Lawrence "Larry" A. Kendhammer

December 21, 1938 — September 20, 2025

La Crosse, WI

Lawrence “Larry” Albert Kendhammer, 86, passed away on September 20, 2025 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. He was born December 21, 1938, to Al and Henrietta (Hafner) Kendhammer.

On May 13, 1961, Larry married Rose Marie Massie at St. Mary’s Church in La Crosse. The couple celebrated 64 years of marriage this past May.

Larry graduated from Aquinas High School in 1956 and went on to work for the La Crosse Tribune, first as a paperboy in his youth, and later as a full-time employee after graduation. He later worked as a metal fabricator for Esser Paint and Glass until the company closed, followed by a dedicated career as a custodian at Hintgen Elementary School, from which he retired. A man of integrity, Larry took great pride in his work, often sharing daily stories from his day on the job.

Larry was a man who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. His yard, small garden, and vibrant flowers were his pride and joy. He was known by his neighbors as the one who kept everything immaculate, and it was always clear when it was time to mow the lawn—Larry had already gotten to it. He always wore a smile, no matter what the day brought.

A devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers, Larry rarely missed a game and loved discussing the teams with fellow fans. He also enjoyed spending time with friends at Schmidty’s, in the earlier years, and Bluffside Tavern, where he would share a beer and catch up with the guys. In his later years, after moving to Eagle Crest, Larry made new friends and enjoyed playing cards with his neighbors. There was not a Sudoku puzzle he could not solve; he could always be counted on to figure out even the most difficult puzzles with ease.

Larry is survived by his wife, Rosie; daughters, Theresa (Tim) Duncan, Shelly (Terry) Clements, and Donna (Scott) Weippert; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Marietta Buchner; in-laws, Cathy Kendhammer, Mary Margaret (Dan) Fox; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Kendhammer; sister, Mary Lou Seidel; and in-laws, Shirley and Larry Erickson, Philip Massie, and Bob Seaquist.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in La Crosse. Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass at the church. Entombment will be held at Catholic Cemetery in La Crosse.
