Lois Ann (Gile) Leren, of West Salem, WI, passed away peacefully at Mulder Health Care Center on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the age of 82. She was born in La Crosse, WI, on June 22, 1943, to Frank and Leona (Bauer) Gile.
Lois married Bill Leren, the love of her life, on September 19, 1970, and they shared 35 wonderful years of marriage. They were forever grateful to the Lord for blessing them with two children and surrounding them with loving family and friends.
Lois is survived by her son, Scott (Jenny) Leren; her son‑in‑law, Michael Horstman; and her grandchildren: Wesley, Tyler, and Leah Leren; Zachary Waters and his wife, Julie, and their children, Lilah and Lucas; Jacob Horstman and his fiancée, Jade Woods; and Elizabeth Karll and her husband, Jake. She is also survived by her brother, Jim Gile, and his wife, Charlene.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Leren; her daughter, Sheila Horstman; her parents, Frank and Leona Gile; and her sister, Sharon.
Lois was always talented at baking and making wonderful meals for her family, and she later brought those skills into her 36‑year career as a baker at Linda’s Bakery. Lois was well‑known for her famous breadsticks and many other delectable treats. She enjoyed a quiet, simple life and found joy tending to her vegetable and flower gardens and watching the wildlife that visited her backyard. She also gave her time generously, volunteering at her church and at the Good Steward Resale Shop.
Affectionately known as Grandma Lo, she was a devoted grandmother—spoiling the grandchildren with her wonderful baked goods, thoughtful gifts, and her presence in their lives. Her family is forever grateful for the steady, thoughtful presence she brought to their lives.
The family would like to thank the staff at Salem Terrace, Agrace Hospice Care, and Mulder Healthcare for the compassionate care Lois received
