Marjorie Anne (nee Stokes) Bushek passed away peacefully into her Savior’s arms on March 25, 2026. She was born December 24,1928 to John and Maude Stokes and was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joseph, brother John Stokes Jr., sister Rita Stern, daughter-in-law Andrea Bushek, nephews John Stokes III and Allen Bushek, a great grandson, three great-great-grandchildren, and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law.
She is survived by her 3 sons, Don (Nancy), Tom, and Chuck; 7 grandchildren, Michelle, Mary, Meghan, Matthew, Nicholette, Susan, Jennifer and spouses; 17 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; niece Patti and nephews David, Tom, Steve, George and Richard. She is also survived by special friends Virginia, Cindy, Carol, Nixie, Candie and Penny, who supported and enriched her life in her final years.
Marjorie was born in La Crosse and graduated from Aquinas High School. She married Joe, the love of her life, in 1950, when she moved with him to the family farm in Middle Ridge. Marjorie enjoyed learning the ways of farm life, and was particularly proud of her garden, her abundant canning on the cellar shelves, and her ability to drive the tractor, and in many other ways she partnered with Joe in running the farm. In 1956, she and Joe left the farm and moved to La Crosse, where they raised their family. Marjorie attended WWTI to learn bookkeeping, and soon after was hired to work at the new La Crosse K-Mart where she managed the cash office for 28 years. Once the office was computerized, Marjorie also helped to train personnel at new K-Mart stores as they opened. After retirement, Marjorie was a volunteer at St. Francis hospital, exceeding 20,000 hours of service. When she had to stop driving in her 80’s, she took the bus to Onalaska early each morning to continue the volunteer work she loved. Marjorie was a fabulous cook, proven by many repeat customers when she was the head cook at Louis Bantle’s in the late ‘50’s and early ‘60’s. She was especially known among family and friends for her delicious homemade cookies, pies and wonderful, creative desserts.
Marjorie’s Catholic faith, her family and her friends were the central part of her life. She attended mass and said the rosary daily, assisted with funeral luncheons, chicken-Q’s, and many other church events at both Blessed Sacrament and Mary, Mother of the Church, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary for many years. She found great meaning in raising her three sons, treasured and spoiled her grandchildren, and delighted in being a loving Gigi to a generation of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family, who will continue to carry her love with them.
The family would like to thank the staff at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center, Eagle Crest South, and Gunderson Hospice for their compassionate care given to Marjorie in her final months.
