Mary Beth Mormann passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at the age of 58.

Mary was born on April 6, 1967 in La Crosse to Pat and Sue (Shanley) Rieland. She graduated from Central High School in 1985 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management from UW-La Crosse in 1990. Mary had a long and successful career in technology, working over 15 years for Trane Company/Ingersol Rand and then for the past 16 years served as Lead Programmer/Analyst for Viterbo University.

On September 14, 1991 she married Jeffrey Mormann at the Roncalli Newman Catholic Church in La Crosse. She embraced the large Mormann family from La Crescent she married into. Together, they shared 33 beautiful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, family and adventure.

Mary loved the outdoors and traveling. During her career at Trane, she traveled extensively around the world to train office staff on specialized software. She enjoyed many camping trips to Lake Arbutus, Wisconsin and loved hiking with her two daughters. She was so proud when they both graduated from Viterbo University and later were married. Mary and Jeffrey snowmobiled many winters in northern Wisconsin and Montana, especially with close friends, Kelly and Scott Lakowske.

Mary was sensitive and creative. She did sketches, painted with acrylics, made ceramics and worked on crafts. At the large holiday gatherings at her parents’ home she would always arrive early to help with food preparation and cleanup. She truly loved to visit and chat.

Mary is survived by her husband Jeffrey Mormann, her parents Pat and Sue Rieland and her daughters Katie (Klint) Wales and Allison (Jacob) Miller of La Crosse. She is also survived by her sister, Ann (Mark) Kilbey of La Crosse and brother David (Helen) Rieland of Troy, MI; her uncles; Allen (Julie) Rieland of Monona, WI; Tom (Carol) Rieland of Columbus, OH; John Shanley of Onalaska, WI; Paul (Mari) Shanley and Mark (Amy) Shanley of Sun City, Fl.

She is further survived by her husband’s siblings and spouses; Monica Mormann of Tampa, FL, Nicholas Mormann, Maxine Mormann, Colleen Mormann, Pam (Bruce) Harlos, Gretchen (Dan) McLees, all of La Crescent, MN, Tim (Peggy) Mormann of Dresbach, MN, Sandra (Phillip) Bautch of Hopkins, MN, Deborah (Brad)Rodda of Colorado, Mark Mormann and Matt Mormann of La Crosse, Rebecca (Dan) Krieger, Linda (Randy) Holthaus of Bangor and Peggy Stankey of West Salem, WI.

She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; Gilbert and Angie Rieland; Gerald and Betty Shanley; as well as Betty’s second spouse, Clyde Butterfield. Her in-laws, Gerald and Margaret Mormann also preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by her aunt Dorothy Shanley, sister-in-law Mary Lou Mormann and brothers-in-law, David and Will Mormann.

There will be a Celebration of Mary’s Life held from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Cedar Creek Golf Club, 2600 Cedar Creek Lane, in Onalaska. Please join her husband Jeffrey and family for appetizers, and dessert, and refreshments as we honor a special lady; spouse, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, co-worker and friend. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to The Coulee Region Humane Society or the charity of your choice.
