Mary Jane Peterson, age 77, of Holmen, WI, passed away peacefully at home on June 18, 2025.
Born on June 21, 1947, in Madison, WI to Paul and June Meier, Mary lived a life rich in love, laughter, and deep devotion to her family and friends.
On August 28, 1982, Mary married Larry Peterson. As partners, they cared fiercely for each other, faced life’s hurdles side by side, and shared a connection filled with laughter, loyalty, and love.
Mary spent over three decades in the retail industry, where she not only found purpose but lifelong friendships. From her early days at Dayton’s and Marshall Fields to her final role as Counter Manager for Lancôme at Macy’s, Mary brought grace, professionalism, and her signature sense of humor to every day on the job.
Mary delighted in every moment with her family, creating memories they will cherish always. She was the kind of person who lit up a room, offered help before it was asked for, and made everyone feel seen and loved. Her generosity, quick wit, and endless love for her family will forever be remembered.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and June Meier; her beloved daughter, Mindy Trevathon; and her grandson, Preston Gunderson. One of her cherished and frequently shared memories was sharing a birthday with her beloved mother, June. They celebrated the occasion each year with their special tradition—shopping together, side by side. Her family finds comfort in knowing they will be together again on this special day.
Mary is survived by her devoted husband of 43 years, Larry Peterson; her children Kimberly (David) Woggon, Raphael (Robert) Koss, Erin (Bart) Gunderson, Megan (Kevin) Schueller, and her son, Ryan Peterson. Mary also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were lights in her life. Mary is also survived by her three brothers, Michael (Debbie) Meier, Thomas Meier, Daniel Meier and sister, Melissa Meier, all with whom she remained close with throughout her life.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the Mayo Medical Hospice team for their compassionate care and support during Mary’s final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Mary’s honor. Details will be shared with family and friends once determined.
