Melany Paige Butterfield (71) of Holmen, WI passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 14th, 2026, after a 44-year battle with multiple sclerosis and a 6-year battle with dementia.
Melany was born on February 23rd,1954 to Morris and Carolyn Yeager in Tacoma, WA. After graduating from Curtis High School in 1973, she went on to have several careers, including a care giver at a nursing facility, working at the Navy Relief Society, U.S. Cellular, and ending her career at Kwik Trip.
In 1975, Melany walked into a bar and saw Dennis. She stated to her friend, “That is the man I’m going to marry”. Dennis came up to Melany, grabbed her foot, and asked if he could take it home. One month later, they jumped into a car with friends, and headed to Reno, NV to get married. During the ceremony, Melany had to ask Dennis what his first name was, because everyone called him by his Navy nickname, Butters. Their love and dedication to each other lasted over 50 years, resulting in two children and two grandchildren carrying on their legacy.
After retiring in 2014, Melany loved to spend most of her time with her grandchildren, Cali and Lily. She enjoyed every moment she had with them. In her spare time, she was an avid reader, she enjoyed word search puzzles, people watching, and spending time with her beloved cats.
Melany was predeceased by her parents Morris and Carolyn Yeager, her Mother and Father-in-law Clyde and Beverly Butterfield, her Aunt Patricia Hesse, Mart, Carol, and Uncle Bud Davis, along with her nephew Jon Curtis.
She is survived by her husband Dennis Butterfield (Holmen), Son Timothy Butterfield (CA), daughter Kimberly Butterfield, married to Joseph Schulze (Ettrick), granddaughters Calista and Lilyana Butterfield (Ettrick), sister Deborah Curtis (CA), niece Christine Curtis (CA), great nephew Tyler Iiams (CA), niece Natalie Seidt ( CA), brother and sister-in-law Daniel and Susan Butterfield (MN), Sister-in-law Diane Johnson (WI), sister-in-law Deborah Butterfield (ME), and Dale and Lisa Butterfield (WI), along with a boatload of cousins and other relatives, which are too numerous to name.
