Michael Wells Riendl, 62, of Onalaska passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2026 at UW Health University Hospital in Madison, WI with his wife by his side after a short ten month, hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born September 4, 1963 in Viroqua to Tom and Julaine (Leahy) Riendl. He graduated from Westby High School in 1981 and later obtained his degree in Police Science. Over the course of his career, he worked in law enforcement and security. Mike was currently employed at the La Crosse County Sheriff’s Office as a jailer, a job he absolutely loved and was looking forward going back to.
He is survived by his wife, Angel and his beloved kitty, Francesca; his children from a previous marriage, Erin, Michael, Robert, Jennifer, Emily, Daniel, Sophie, J Thomas, and Chloe; several grandchildren; other family and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law James Bejma; mother-in-law Jo Ann Griffin and a sister.
Mike’s cancer was 1 in a million and he was in for the fight of his life for the last 114 days with the last 12 being unexpected. No more Madison, no more pain.
Mike had the most incredible team. A million and 1 thank yous are not enough to Dr. Sieck and Jennifer Guinn, PA; Dr Harmon and Angie, RN; Dr. Driscoll and team all from Gundersen Health System.
Also, the ENT, Neurosurgery, Neuro-ICU and Palliative Care units of UW Health Madison for being so amazing. Angel would like to thank the GHS and UW teams for all the support that was given on the hardest days. She couldn’t have done this without them.
