Michael J. Yeager, age 73, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at home surrounded by his family, including his beloved cat Mittens. He was born February 6, 1953 in La Crosse, WI to Bernard and Virginia Yeager.
A 1972 graduate of Onalaska High School, Mike went on to earn an Associates degree in Accounting from WWTC. He worked at Metallics for several years before retiring and moving on to Accounting before finally retiring for good. Mike married Shirley Haase on January 10,1976 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, WI and were blessed with two children, Kim and David. Spending time with his kids and grandkids were among his favorite memories.
A member of First Free Church, Mike volunteered on the Benevolence Team. He also deeply loved cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed traveling with his family; some of his favorite trips included going to South Dakota, Arizona, Wyoming, Vegas, and Branson, Missouri. Above all, his family meant the most to him.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley Yeager; children, Kim (Jeremy) Durfee and David (Andrea) Yeager; grandchildren, Jamie Michael, Andree, and Johnny; his brother, Patrick (Linda) Yeager; sister, Sue (Tom) Ramey; several nieces and nephews; and his cat, Mittens.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Yeager; and infant sister, Nancy.
Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 17,2026 at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home,907 Sand Lake Road, Onalaska, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at Onalaska Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the First Free Church Food Pantry to help those in need.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you and gratitude to St. Croix Hospice for their wonderful care provided to Mike in his final months.
