Mildred Sperbeck

Mildred (Kerns) Selke Sperbeck, 98, of La Crescent passed away at the Gundersen Health System in La Crosse on Monday, June 30, 2025. Mildred was born on September 16, 1926 to Angus and Iva (Riley) Kerns. She married Arnold Selke and together they had three children, Walter, Debra and Laura. Mildred worked very hard as a farm wife. She was able to garden, sew and bake with the best of them. After Arnold’s death she married Lyle Sperbeck. They spent many of their retirement years traveling in their 5th wheel trailer.

Mildred is survived by her three children, Laura Selke, Debra Strangstalien and her children Erik (Bridget) and Evan (Sara), and Walter “Butch” (Joyce) Selke and their children, William (Susan) Selke and Brian Selke, and step children Lori Henderson, Vicki (Keith) Laughman, and Curt (Karen) Henderson, and 21 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. Mildred is also survived by her stepchildren, Linda Leidel, Craig Sperbeck and his daughter Carlie (Nick) Mann, Seth (Kiela) Sperbeck, and Bruce Sperbeck, and special sisters-in-law, Elva Kerns and Charlet Sperbeck. In addition to her husbands she was preceded in death by a brother Donald Kerns, a son-in-law Doug Strangstalien, and a granddaughter Julie Gerdes. The family would like to give special thanks to the team on 6th floor Medical Oncology at Gundersen. We appreciate you so much.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Calvary Ev. Lutheran Church, La Crosse. Pastor Robert Wassermann will officiate. Burial will be in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, La Crescent. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of services.
