Nancy Meyer, age 94, entered eternal life December 14, 2025. Born July 28, 1931 to Harold and Dorothy Ermatinger, Nancy lived a life marked by deep faith, love of family, and youthful exuberance.
Nancy grew up in Jim Falls, WI at a time when the majority of neighborhood children were boys. Never one for dolls, she joined the boys fishing, playing ball, and smoking driftwood “cigars” by the river. She was a stellar student and earned many dollars from her grandpa for the A’s on her report card. She graduated from McDonell Catholic High School in Chippewa Falls and entered nursing school at St. Mary’s in Rochester. As a young nurse, she joined several friends as a traveling nurse outside New York City enjoying Broadway shows and big city life. Upon returning to her home in Wisconsin, she worked at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire and met Richard “Dick” Meyer, who soon became her husband. Nancy and Dick were married on April 16, 1955 and moved to La Crosse.
Dick and Nancy raised six children. Even while working as a labor & delivery nurse at St Francis Hospital, Nancy always made sure there were fresh cookies in the cookie jar and healthy, homemade meals.
But where Nancy really excelled was as Gramma to 18 and great Gramma to 13. Always ready to play games, go to the park, read books, tickle backs, and find adventures, Nancy cherished her time with them. Nancy attended as many of their sporting events, recitals, and programs as she could.
Nancy was also a generous volunteer. She served as a Girl Scout leader, room mom, a Mobile Meals and food pantry volunteer, and was a Catholic Daughters member (also serving as president for several years). Her most meaningful volunteer time was spent in the Votive Candle Chapel at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe where she faithfully assisted pilgrims every Friday for many years, finally retiring from that position at age 90.
Nancy’s Catholic faith molded everything she did. Especially in retirement, she and Dick were daily communicants, kept their weekly Holy Hours, prayed multitudes of rosaries and lit many, many candles for their loved ones, a habit Nancy continued up until the day she passed. All of the family knew who to turn to for prayers!
Nancy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dick, after 61 years of marriage; parents, Harold and Dorothy Ermatinger; brothers, Don and Richard; sister-in-law, Betty; ten of Dick’s eleven siblings and their spouses; and son-in-law, Dave Meyer. She is survived by her six children, Tim (Jill), Dave (DiAnn), Betsy (Dave), Paul (Ruth), Mary Sue (Pete), and Ellie (Tom); their children and grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Dennis Meyer.
Funeral services will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in La Crosse, WI on Saturday, January 10 at 10am with visitation at the church at 9am. Burial will be at Catholic Cemetery followed by a luncheon at Blessed Sacrament.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Blessed Sacrament Parish, 130 Losey Blvd., La Crosse, WI 54601, or just like Nancy, to any non-profit that sends you something in the mail.
