Nora “Jane” (Grainger) Wines was reunited with her beloved husband on September 15, 2025. She was born on May 2, 1942, in LaPorte, Indiana, to A.C. and Georgia (Pitman) Grainger, just minutes after her twin brother, Kent.
Jane met the love of her life, Dick Wines, during her first week at Kokomo High School and married him on August 31, 1963. Together they built a life in the Coulee Region, where they opened an optometry practice and raised a family. They shared a love of biking, golf, and travel until his passing in 1998. Afterward, Jane continued to explore, taking road trips with friends and even visiting England and Scotland.
Over the years, Jane worked in many roles — at Stellite, Dow Jones, RCA, the Kinsey Institute (where she handled payroll), and the Organization of American Historians. Her favorite title, however, was Mom to two daughters and Nonie to four grandchildren. She never missed a school event, hosted countless sleepovers and pool parties, and planned annual trips with her grandchildren until her health no longer allowed it.
Jane loved quilting, baking, cooking, reading, and watching golf when she could no longer play. She was known for striking up conversations with anyone, sharing her stories freely, and offering advice just when it was needed.
She will be remembered for her love, wisdom, and kindness, and her words will live on in the hearts of her family. As she once told her oldest grandchild:
“Life can be easy, if you just let it be.”
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her twin brother, Kent; four sisters-in-law, Rosie, Rhenda, Shirley, and Shelby; and five brothers-in-law, Jack, Robert, Bob, Kent, and Ron. She is survived by her brother Rex (Barbra) Grainger of Kokomo, IN; sister Toni Grainger of West Carrollton, OH; sisters-in-law Becky, Rita, Sherry, Diann, Marsha, and Becky; brothers-in-law Roger and Randy; daughters Stephanie (Mike) Greene of La Crosse, WI, and Erica Wines (Mark Bryant) of Holmen, WI; grandchildren Salome and Aidan Greene and Haley and Nora Parsneau; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Her family would like to thank the staff of the Benedictine Living Community. Their extraordinary love and care were a comfort to Jane and her family for the last weeks of her life.
A service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Teresa of Kolkata Parish in West Salem, WI. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., with a gathering in the annex to follow. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association (https://www.apdaparkinson.org/). A private interment will take place at a later date.
