Robert Bob Nygaard, a devoted father grandfather and friend died peacefully on October 9, 2025 in La Crescent, Minnesota at the age of 85.
Bob was born and raised in Hawkins, Wisconsin. Though he left to pursue a college education in teaching, Hawkins always felt like home to him. After graduating from college, he taught in North Dakota for a few years before returning to Wisconsin. He spent over 35 years educating young minds at Slinger middle school. His career brought him immense joy and fulfillment.
While Bob dedicated much of his life to teaching, he also devoted countless hours to raising his four amazing children. Whether it was cheering them on at volleyball, basketball, baseball, football, or soccer games, or spending weekends hunting with his sons, Bob was always there, fully engaged in their lives. His love, support, and unwavering presence were evident in everything he did. He was not just a father, but a role model, and the legacy of kindness, dedication, and love he leaves behind is reflected in the lives of his children, who carry forward his example every day.
After retiring, Bob fully embraced his golden years, living life to the fullest. In retirement, Bob found solace and joy in hobbies like hunting, fishing, gardening, and golf. He was also known to spend time enjoying a cold beer at the clubhouse with his friends. In recent years, he could often be found in his garden, making sauerkraut with his neighbors, or swimming at the chalet. He also enjoyed stopping by friends’ homes for a chat, always quick to share a story or lend a helping hand.
Bob was the proud father of four children: Mary (Russ) Schlosser, Mike (Sherry)Nygaard, Matt Nygaard (Alexander On) and John (Jenny)Nygaard. He was also a loving grandfather to nine grandchildren Macy (Nathan)Bonenfant, Cooper (Mikayla)Schlosser, Crosby Schlosser, Taylor Rahlf, Paige Nygaard, Sawyer Nygaard, Brooklyn Nygaard, Justin Nygaard, and Graeme Nygaard.
He is further survived by his sister, Judy Nygaard and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Edna Nygaard, sisters, Adele Nygaard, and Irene Lazar, and brother-in-law, Larry Lazar.
Bob was a kind caring man who deeply valued his faith, family, and friends. His passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be dearly missed by all.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and CNA’s at La Crescent health services and the Gunderson hospice team for the compassionate care they provided to Bob in his final stages of life.
