Robert Jr. Traister, 100, passed away on June 12, 2026.
Robert was born on January 10, 1926, to Frank and Cora Traister in Ottumwa, Iowa. Robert went on to marry Fern Janice (Piepenhagen), and they were married for 75 years until her passing in 2024. They had four children: Steven Traister, Pamela J. Carlson, Lee (LeRoy) Traister of Arkansas, and Patricia Hatke of Wisconsin.
Robert joined the army and served during WW2. Robert was a part of the 10th Armored Division. He fought in the Battle of Bastone and liberated Dachau Concentration Camp. He was awarded a Bronze Star. Robert became a lifelong member of the VFW Post 1530 and American Legion Post 52 of La Crosse, WI. He was a member of MT Calvary Lutheran Church. In his civilian life, he worked for Allis-Chalmers and Trane Co.
Robert was predeceased by his wife Fern, children Steven and Pamela, his four brothers, John W., Frank F., Harold E., and Kenneth; his two sisters, Mae C. Piepenhagen and Grace L. Wenzel. He is survived by Lee Traister of Arkansas, Patricia Hatke of Wisconsin; seven grandchildren: Jennifer Hatke of Wisconsin, Robert Hatke (Lynn) of Washington, Matthew Carlson of Wisconsin, John Carlson (Marianne) of Wisconsin, and three others; seven great-grandchildren: Atticus Carlson, Nolan Carlson, and five others.
There will be a burial on Friday, June 19, at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park, N1137 Bloomer Mill Rd, La Crosse, WI 54601, at 10:00. In lieu of cards or flowers, the family would greatly appreciate your presence.
