Roland Leonard Helmreich, age 84, of Onalaska, Wisconsin, entered eternal life on December 17, 2025. Born on August 12, 1941, in Freeland, Michigan, to Leonard and Olga Helmreich, Roland was called home to his Savior after a life devoted to faith, family, and service.
Roland dedicated his life to teaching God’s Word and mathematics. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Doctor Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota, and a Master of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Illinois. For many years, he faithfully served as a teacher at Luther High School in Onalaska, Wisconsin, touching countless lives with his wisdom and Christian example until his retirement in 2010.
On July 19, 1964, Roland married the love of his life who he met on a blind date, Betty (Springer) Helmreich, in Watertown, South Dakota. Together they built a home grounded in faith and filled with love. Roland was a devoted hobby farmer and prolific gardener, finding joy in tending the earth God created. He was also an accomplished baker, renowned among family and friends for his exceptional banana bread.
Roland is cherished by his loving wife of 61 years, Betty Helmreich; his children, Chris Helmreich, Mark (Cheryl) Helmreich, Ann (Perry) Wolfe, and Sue (Erik) Bolstad; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He also leaves behind his brother, William (Cynthia) Helmreich of Midland, Michigan; and sister, Hilda (Lynn) Kuether of Mesa, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Olga Helmreich.
A Christian funeral service celebrating Roland’s life and his sure hope in the resurrection will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Holmen, Wisconsin. Visitation will begin at 3:00 pm with a funeral service to follow at 5pm. A luncheon will be provided.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to MLC or monetary donations will go towards his favorite mission in Brazil.
Roland’s family finds comfort in the promise of Scripture: “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies” (John 11:25). He will be deeply missed but joyfully remembered until we meet again in heaven.
