Roxanne Agnes Lonkoski, 78, of La Crosse, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus at her home on Monday, March 16, 2026, with close friends by her side.
Rox was born in La Crosse on June 20, 1947, to Joseph and Mabel (Gutweiler) Woods. She was a graduate of Central High School. On December 1st, 1983, she married the love of her life, Jim Lonkoski. She worked as a flight attendant for Northwest Airlines, a police officer for the city of Milwaukee, and a telephone operator for the city of La Crosse before her retirement.
Rox enjoyed traveling with Jim, especially to Zihuantanejo, Mexico. She was an avid gardener, loved feeding birds, participated in Bible Study at First Free Church in Onalaska, and was known as the Queen of Gadgets. Some also knew her as the Queen of Everything. She also loved to shop, whether it was driving members of the Amish community around to garage sales or taking a shopping trip to Rochester with her friend, BJ, she never missed those opportunities.
Roxanne lived life to the fullest and had a personal relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus. She proclaimed her faith by undergoing baptism at the age of 77. She completed her final bucket list item of skydiving at the age of 78. Roxanne loved her family and friends and had a special connection with children. She had the ability to make people feel loved and cherished.
Roxanne is survived by her stepson, Jeff (Helen) Lonkoski; grandchildren, Greg (Heather) Lonkoski and Becca Lonkoski; sister, Doris Mathews; and many special nieces, nephews, and friends.
Roxanne was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; brother, Jim Woods; and sisters, Trudy Christenson and Donna Elkens.
Roxanne’s family would like to thank her doctor and personal friend, Dr. Ed Malone, for the care he provided over the years. As Rox would say "he kept me going." They also want to thank the nurses at Mayo Dialysis, St. Croix Hospice, Aveanna Home Health Services, and special caretaker Sheri Malone. Many special friends participated in her care over the last year bringing joy and light to her life.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm on Friday, March 27, 2026 at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse with a short memorial service beginning at 2:30 pm. For those unable to attend, the service will be live streamed.
