Susan Margaret Bishop Link, 79, of La Crosse, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 17, 2026, with her beloved cat, Feather, by her side.
Sue was born on July 4, 1946, in Viroqua, Wisconsin, to Lt. Colonel Gordon Bishop and Peg Hoeck Bishop. She graduated from Viroqua High School in 1964 and earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse.
Sue began volunteering at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital as a candy striper and later worked there as a receptionist for many years, receiving recognition for her dedicated service. She was also honored by the Scouting Heritage Society and recognized for contributing more than 6,000 hours of service to the American Legion.
A talented artist, Sue was known for her handmade crafts and thoughtfully created cards, which she mailed each year to family and friends. She had a deep love for animals, especially senior cats, and supported various animal welfare organizations throughout her life.
Sue enjoyed travel and experiencing different cultures, with Norway holding a special place in her heart. Above all, she was devoted to her family, her faith, and her community. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to showing up for those she loved.
Sue is survived by her husband, Gary Link; sisters Linda Bishop Arnold and Beth Bishop; son, Timothy (Sharon) Link; grandchildren, Isabelle “IJL” Link and Christian (Kitty) Link; niece, Debi (Gabe) Leis; great nephew, Zavier Leis; and great nieces Anna (Vee) Leis and Ella Leis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lt. Colonel Gordon Bishop and Peg Hoeck Bishop.
A memorial service will be held at English Lutheran Church in La Crosse, Wisconsin, on Monday, February 23, 2026. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m.
To honor Sue’s compassionate heart and lifelong commitment to serving others, the family asks that those attending the funeral bring donations for the English Lutheran Church’s care item drive supporting individuals and families in Minneapolis impacted by ICE. Suggested items include personal care and household essentials.
For those unable to attend in person but wishing to honor Sue’s memory, memorials may be made to a local animal shelter or to one of her favorite charities: Alley Cat Allies, Best Friends Animal Society, or Wounded Warrior Project.
