Vicki C. (Jacobson) Otto passed away peacefully on June 11th, 2026, surrounded by family. Vicki was born in Stoughton, WI, on May 27, 1955, to Robert and Stella Jacobson. She graduated from Stoughton High School in 1973 and later earned her BS degree from Minnesota State University, Mankato. On April 8, 1978, she married Richard “Dick” Otto. A loving relationship that would span over 48 beautiful years. Their marriage was blessed with four daughters, Sarah, Casey, Lindsey, and Carly. Family was always Vicki’s greatest joy. She faithfully attended gymnastics meets, dance competitions, school events, and activities for her daughters. In cheering them on, she was their biggest fan, Vicki rarely missing an opportunity to support her children’s passions in any and all ways. Her children will forever give back into the world the love and support they were raised into.

Throughout her life, it comes as no surprise that Vicki found joy in caring for others. She operated a family daycare center, worked with Family Resources in La Crosse, and later shared her knowledge and passion for early childhood education through her work at Western Technical College.

Never one to shy away from fun, Vicki also embraced the world of clowning after completing clown training through the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse. As a member of the Coulee Region Clown Club, she participated in parades, parties, competitions, and La Crosse Clown Camp, where she proudly served as a “Blue Vester” volunteer. Her playful spirit provided a smile to anyone who crossed her path.

While living in La Crescent, MN, she helped establish the city’s first Community Garden and co-managed the beginnings of the La Crescent Farmers Market. Both continue to thrive today, serving as a lasting reminder of her wholesome vision and unwavering dedication to anything she sets her mind to, which often is something that would benefit others. Vicki was a devoted member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, where she generously volunteered in countless ways over the years. She helped coordinate breakfasts for Sugar Creek Bible Camp, funerals, Vacation Bible School, food ministry programs, choir, church picnics, and much more. She also volunteered with the Lunch Wagon summer meal program in La Crescent. She was always ready to lend a helping hand and serve others with kindness.

She had a love for gardening that extended far beyond her own yard. Vicki became a Master Gardener in both Minnesota and Wisconsin and was actively involved with garden clubs throughout the region. She delighted in helping things grow—flowers, vegetables, communities, and friendships.

The kitchen was one of Vicki's favorite gathering places. Friends and family knew that holidays meant days filled with laughter, stories, and the making of hundreds of egg rolls, krumkake, and lefse. These traditions were often shared with dear friends and loved ones. Among her many adventures, Vicki fondly remembered dancing with the Stoughton Norwegian Dancers during high school, including a memorable trip to Europe where she performed abroad. At age 12, she was selected from more than 1,500 girls as one of eight finalists in the Little Miss Dale Ponytail Contest, an experience that included participating in a horse show performance with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. Vicki and Dick enjoyed traveling throughout the United States together, creating endless memories along the way. One of their favorite places was Sun City West, Arizona. Where they enjoyed many clubs, activities, and spending time with friends and family. Vicki’s involvement included water aerobics and the garden club, but her favorite was the fused glass and enamel. Here she made many friends and made many pieces of jewelry, glass bowls, plates, and other items. Those who knew Vicki will remember her as a vibrant, outgoing woman whose energy seemed limitless. She rarely sat still for long, always finding a new project to tackle, a garden to tend, a meal to prepare, or a way to help someone in need. Vicki found happiness in staying busy and making life brighter for those around her. Her colorful personality, generous spirit, and ability to make everyone feel welcome left a lasting impression on all who knew her. The communities she helped build, the traditions she created, and the countless lives she touched will continue to reflect her legacy for years to come. Vicki is survived by her loving husband Richard of 48 years; daughter Casey Otto of La Crosse, Lindsey (Nick) Morgel of Prior Lake, MN, Carly (Will) Browne of Sun Prairie, WI, grandchildren Gitana Rave and Bentley Gleason; Siblings Tom (Gretchen) Jacobson and Scott (Debra) Jacobson. She was preceded in death by daughter Sarah, parents Robert and Stella Jacobson, and baby Sibling Scott.

There will be a burial ceremony at Prince of Peace Cemetery in La Crescent on Thursday, June 18th, at 2 P.M. and a celebration of Life to be held on July 9th. Details will be shared as plans are finalized.
